Faced with the problem of transmitting the video and audio content of remotely located computers coupled with the need to have local control of them as part of a major upgrade, APD Communications Ltd turned to specialist computer and network provider ITM Components to assist them in their solution. ITM, in turn, approached Scene Double to provide over sixty SDBX/UA1, keyboard, video and mouse (KVM) extenders for installation at Devon & Cornwall Police 999 Command Centres.
The solution consisted of a pair of small transmitter and receiver units which were located at either end of an individual Cat5e cable to act as transceivers for video and data signals sent in one direction and keyboard, audio and mouse actions sent in the reverse direction.
