Free Wi-Fi takes-off at Exeter Airport

15 September 2015

Arqiva has partnered with Exeter Airport to deliver free Wi-Fi connectivity to passengers travelling throughout the terminal building.

Previously, free Wi-Fi had only been available for 30 minutes in centralised departure lounge areas. However, following an upgrade delivered by Arqiva, any passenger can now access up to 60 minutes of free connectivity daily, with coverage provided across all areas of the terminal building. After one hour, internet access is chargeable at £3 an hour or £5 for three hours.

Stephen Ayres, communications manager for Exeter International Airport, says: “Today’s travellers expect to be able to get online at every stage in their journey. At Exeter Airport we are committed to providing the best possible visitor experience and a fast and reliable public Wi-Fi connection is a crucial part of that.

“With annual passenger numbers rising to pre-recession levels we anticipate that enhancing passenger satisfaction through this upgrade will further support the airport’s future growth.”

Services in and out of the airport have been increasing in recent years, and with the introduction of flights to London City Airport, passenger numbers exceeded 700,000 in 2014.

In August, the airport announced the return of direct flights to and from Glasgow, and the extension of its summer season into October for flights to Alicante, Malaga and Palma Mallorca.

Arqiva syas it has successfully delivered Wi-Fi solutions to 21 of the largest 25 airports in the UK, including passenger and airline lounge WiFi services and connectivity to on-airport business partners.

The infrastructure specialist is also helping councils to facilitate free Wi-Fi for local residents and visitors, most notably the London Borough of Richmond (see Sep 2015 issue of Networking+).
