AI-driven data booms 690% in 2024

24 April 2025

Fivetran has announced striking new figures indicating that demand for AI-driven data has skyrocketed by 690% in 2024.

This substantial increase highlights how companies are heavily investing in training large language models (LLMs), refining machine learning (ML) models, and automating critical business processes.

These insights were derived from an analysis of the total volume of data moved by Fivetran customers across various industries throughout 2024 compared to the previous year. The analysis reveals significant trends in data pipeline scaling across several sectors:

• Legal: The legal industry experienced a remarkable 211.2% growth in data volumes as firms increasingly utilized AI to process large amounts of contracts and case data.
• Healthcare: There was a 99.7% growth in the healthcare sector, driven by the rising demand for AI-driven solutions in patient diagnostics.

AI is rapidly transforming these traditionally slow-moving industries into data powerhouses, necessitating secure, automated, and high-volume data movement to function effectively. Additionally, AI's influence is prompting other industries to adapt their operations accordingly:

• Retail: An increase of 54.2% in data volumes reflects the use of AI to optimize supply chains, predict consumer demand, and automate various operations.
• Manufacturing: The sector saw a 64.7% growth as manufacturers leveraged AI to enhance efficiency across production lines.
• Insurance: Data volumes in insurance rose by 40.7% as companies utilized AI for fraud detection, risk modeling, and improving customer experiences.
• Financial Services: The financial sector experienced a 27.5% increase, driven by AI-powered underwriting and automated compliance monitoring, significantly changing how financial data is managed.

“We’re seeing a fundamental shift in how businesses use AI. Rather than being seen as an ‘add-on,’ it is now becoming the foundation of how businesses make decisions. But this also presents a major challenge: moving and managing data at scale,” said Taylor Brown, COO and Co-Founder of Fivetran.

Brown emphasized that Fivetran's automated data pipelines are crucial in addressing these challenges, providing enterprises with real-time data integration to keep pace with the accelerating demand for AI-driven data. The solution ensures clean, high-quality data flows without bottlenecks, allowing organizations to fully leverage their data capabilities.
