Telenor IoT Partners with Volvo Cars for IoT EV charging solution

06 March 2025

Telenor IoT has officially signed an agreement with Volvo Cars to support their Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging initiative in Europe. The recent unveiling of the Volvo wallbox represents a breakthrough in home charging technology, offering an efficient and intelligent solution packed with advanced Volvo features.

Designed for convenience, the Volvo wallbox allows users to schedule charging times, access charging history, and control wallbox access, all through the user-friendly Volvo Cars app. As part of its forward-thinking design, the wallbox is engineered to support bi-directional charging capabilities in the future. This innovative feature will enable vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and vehicle-to-home (V2H) charging, allowing charged car batteries to power homes or feed energy back into the grid to enhance stability and reliability.

To ensure these advanced functionalities operate seamlessly, the Volvo wallbox is equipped with a Telenor IoT SIM card, providing cellular connectivity that secures maximum uptime in cases where WiFi or Ethernet connections may be temporarily unavailable.

“The decision to collaborate with Telenor was clear-cut, given our longstanding and robust relationship,” said Alexander Petrofski, Head of Energy Solutions at Volvo Car Corporation. “When selecting a connectivity provider, we prioritize reliability, high quality, and professional support, and Telenor Connexion has excelled in all those areas.”

“We are honoured to continue and expand our partnership with Volvo Cars, unlocking new opportunities within the connected vehicle ecosystem where we have established expertise. We are committed to delivering the highest quality service to Volvo Cars and eagerly anticipate innovative solutions on the horizon,” said Paulo Vergos, Chief NSO Officer at Telenor Connexion.
