Poundworld currently runs 260 stores but plans to double this over the next five years.

Poundworld has started a 10-month project that will see it implement a range of new IT systems to improve customer experience, efficiency and store management.

During phase one the retailer will roll out PCMS’ Vision BeanStore PoS system which aims to enable faster transactions, better stock control, and reduce training requirements.

In phase two it will introduce SAP and Business Objects as central management tools to support more automation as well as faster processes and reporting across the estate.

Poundworld currently runs 260 stores but plans to double this over the next five years. It says "robust and resilient" IT provision is a crucial element in the expansion strategy, ensuring that it has the flexibility to grow with the business.

Poundworld co-founder and MD Chris Edwards says: “As our business expands geographically, we also want to expand our technological capability and create a platform to help us grow and achieve greater economies of scale.  In PCMS, we have found a partner with passion and innate understanding of retail, which is demonstrated through its people and Tier 1 customer base. We’re very excited about evolving our IT offer and seeing the benefits in terms of customer experience and estate management.”
