The Federation of Communication Services (FCS), the not-for-profit industry association for companies which deliver professional voice and data communications solutions to business and public sector customers in the UK, and provider of best practice for installation of equipment for delivery of these solutions, has issued a significant revision of its FCS1331 UK Code of Practice on business radio site engineering.

The FCS1331 Code of Practice on Business Radio Site Engineering was created to help purchasers of systems and installers to understand the issues that need to be addressed thereby providing a better operational solution.

FCS believes it is essential that the FCS1331 Code of Practice reflects current best practice of site engineering. Its guidance has all the latest information, including the contributions from many installation industry representatives under the guidance of the FCS Business Radio Council.

Accordingly, FCS announces that FCS1331:2022 - Business Radio Site Engineering (the 2022 Revision of the Code of Practice) is now available and may be downloaded from the FCS website. This latest revision reflects:

• Current safety legislation and practice,
• Radio spectrum licensing (including changes to the Conditions),
• The regulatory and legal environment developments including those arising from the UK leaving the European Union,
• The increasing complexity of issues at the site,
• Advice on procedures.

“Those responsible for the procurement of installation services need a high degree of confidence that the work they are commissioning will be done to the required level of excellence in advance of the work commencing. It is always more expensive to build a site which then has to be re-worked by someone else to get it to work properly,” said Tim Cull, FCS head of Regulatory Affairs and Business Radio. “The due diligence processes undertaken by procurement professionals when purchasing site engineering services will naturally seek a reference to quote at the time of contract. If the installer follows the FCS1331 Code of Practice on Site Engineering, the chances are that a good, quality job will be done and everything will run smoothly, providing years of use."

“The involvement of so many parties from the installation industry is not only crucial to the relevance of this update, but also ensures its usefulness and accuracy for its use going forward,” said Itret Latif, FCS CEO. “This is a clear example of the FCS Business Radio Council leading and coordinating the development of current best practice for the operational radiocommunications industry. FCS is able to provide the credibility and gravitas required thanks to your efforts and is the natural place for industry stakeholders to coalesce for the development of industry standards. Also, importantly, it provides a recognised industry governance platform to agree the future for the operational radiocommunication community. FCS is very grateful for the input and hard work from all contributors.”
