The UK’s Crown Commercial Service (CCS) has announced the launch of G-Cloud 15 (GC15), the latest iteration of the government’s flagship cloud services framework.
Valued at approximately £14 billion (excluding VAT), this new procurement aims to modernise and expand how public-sector organisations acquire cloud technology, platforms, and support services. Building on the success of previous frameworks, G-Cloud 15 replaces G-Cloud 14 and its associated Cloud Compute agreements, continuing to facilitate large-scale cloud adoption across the UK public sector. In the 2023/24 fiscal year alone, spending on G-Cloud reached £3.1 billion, underscoring its significance in government IT modernisation efforts.
The new framework has been launched with significant updates aimed at making cloud procurement more straightforward, equitable, and efficient for both public sector buyers and suppliers. A key change is the integration of Cloud Compute services directly into the main G-Cloud structure, eliminating the previous need for a separate Cloud Compute 3 framework and creating a more unified approach.
All framework lots under G-Cloud 15 will now enable call-off contracts that can be awarded either with or without competition, streamlining the process for organizations to engage approved suppliers. The Crown Commercial Service (CCS) has also introduced more traditional evaluation methods and tailored Economic and Financial Standing (EFS) criteria for each lot, moving away from the uniform “Bronze Plus” standard that was used in G-Cloud 14.
