Cyberattacks on UK organisations surge by over 50%

The UK has witnessed a dramatic escalation in the scale, frequency, and sophistication of cyberattacks over the past year, causing widespread disruptions to critical operations and substantial economic losses.

According to the National Cyber Security Centre’s (NCSC) Annual Review 2025, the number of nationally significant cyber incidents handled by the organisation has skyrocketed by more than 50% compared to the same period in the previous year.

The sharp increase in high-impact cyberattacks has rendered periodic audits and reactive security measures insufficient, forcing organisations to rethink their security strategies and adopt a more proactive, offensive approach to combat the evolving threat landscape. The NCSC’s review, covering the period from September 2024 to August 2025, reveals a disturbing trend of escalating cyber threats, which poses a significant challenge to the nation’s cybersecurity.

The review highlights a notable rise in the number of cyber incidents, with the NCSC handling 204 nationally significant cases during this period. The increased sophistication and frequency of these attacks underscore the urgent need for organisations to reassess their security posture and invest in more robust, proactive measures to stay ahead of the threats.
